Multi-Durometer Coil Reinforced PTFE Lined Tubing
Greater hoop strength and improved interior lubricity are two key advantages of multi-durometer, coil reinforced, PTFE lined medical tubing. DUKE Extrusion offers this specialty catheter shaft tubing in a range of standard sizes, from 2 to 24 Fr outer diameters.
We can also provide quick turn development of custom specifications to meet your unique requirements. Custom multi-durometer tubing can be provided with as many as 7 different durometer segments, though 3-5 segments are generally sufficient for most applications.
Coil reinforcements are used in applications that typically do not require the higher torque transmission properties that a braided catheter shaft can provide. Coils also provide improved kink resistance. High pic per inch (PPI) coils provide the most flexibility, while lower PPI provides an increase in stiffness. Length of the coil, pitch, durometer, and wall thickness can be configured to provide the required bend radius
Multiple filament coils can also be provided to allow for optimization of properties by combining the kink resistance and tight bend radius of a high ppi coil with the pushability and column strength of a more open pitch coil.
Numerous characteristics of our multi-durometer coil reinforced PTFE lined tubing can be customized, including wire size, wire shape (flat or round), wire material, pics per inch, gap variations, variable pitch coils, multiple filament coils, and liner and jacket wall thickness.
Coils are provided with co-linear terminations that line up with the end of the PTFE liner within the catheter shaft. Non-reinforced tubing material(s) continue to run past the end of the coil, creating a slightly smaller O.D. and allowing for tipping and attachment to other components.
