PolySLIX™ Medical Tubing

PolySLIX™ is a specially formulated material that offers better lubricity than HDPE, but that can be processed in the same manner as standard Polyurethane materials. We incorporate special additives into a polyurethane base resin, uniformly dispersed to provide the full benefits of the additives without affecting the base material’s mechanical properties, workability, or sterilization characteristics.

PolySLIX is formed using a twin-screw compounding process to create a homogeneously blended resin. This blended resin extrudes well as tubing, with tight tolerances on the inner diameter (I.D.), the outer diameter (O.D.), and wall thickness. As PolySLIX is a custom compound and not a coating, the I.D. and O.D. both benefit from its lubricious properties. This material is beneficial in medical tubing and device applications that require greater lubricity, such as rapid exchange catheters, guidewire lumens, and endoscope applications.

Because PolySLIX can be processed in the same manner as standard polyurethanes, it can be reflowed for jacketing, braid, or coil reinforced catheters and facilitates thermal bonding to medical balloons. PolySLIX materials can be reflowed to create custom geometry such as tip forming or flaring. PolySLIX is also bondable with medical-grade adhesives.

Available in a full range of durometers from 80A through 75D, PolySLIX is an innovative solution for applications requiring added lubricity, such as concentric tubing, which must slide relative to each other with low friction. This is particularly important for catheter delivery systems which require flexibility to navigate tortuous pathways where high frictional forces can limit device functionality.

Additionally, PolySLIX resins are stable when sterilized using either Gamma or E-beam sterilization methods.
